The seemingly unexplained absence of Neese brought varied reactions from his colleagues. Said Northwestern's captain, Sig Hansen:
In all honesty, I'm kinda not surprised Elliott isn't here this year
Counter Scott "Junior" Campbell of the Seabrooke said:
He should be up here; he should already be ready to go.
What could be the reasons why Neese is somewhat missing in this year's season? Well, at one instance while at sea, Neese feuded with Ramblin' Rose's owner during an ice storm. The former also failed to pull in enough catch that time. Other issues include Neese and his girlfriend Valerie Gunderson had a quarrel. Neese was reportedly kicked out of their home then eventually accused of harassing Ms. Gunderson via text messages and phone calls.

Social media tool Twitter however revealed that Elliott Neese is in Alaska, as he Tweeted:
Back in AK so much nicer here than down south Im over the city
Crew showed up today really gettin to work on the boat we have 2 months to do a total retrofit/ makeover I hope we can make our deadline!!
And there is also this Tweet where Neese told a Twitter friend about possible drama in what has been going on in the TV:
