DTI to Investigate Cement Price Increases

Philippines Department of Trade and Industry to Probe Cement Price Increases -- The DTI seeks to investigate on the reasons why cement manufacturers including the new comer Eagle Cement, raised their prices to 10 percent. Interest is a lot greater towards the Cojuangco-owned Eagle Cement, the DTI Undersecretary Zenaida C. Maglaya hinted.
Matingnan nga namin yan (We will look into that)
Maglaya said that their price increase investigation will be on a per company basis. Cement industries were given until this week to explain their sides.
Notably, Holcim cement now sells at P216 from its previous price of P195. Lafarge and Cemex are now selling their products for P220 (from P205) and P225 (from P195) respectively. The DTI was somewhat alarmed since by law, any plans of the cement sellers to increase prices shall be declared first to the department before implementation.
