June 12 2013 Holiday in the Philippines [Independence Day]

June 12 2013 is a Philippine government declared national holiday, also known as the "Independence Day". It is the commemoration of the declaration of Philippine's independence from Spain on June 12, 1898. This is the 115th Independent Day celebration for the Filipino nation.

Philippine Independence Day or "Araw ng Kasarinlan" / "Araw ng Kalayaan" ("Day of Freedom") is celebrated annually, in the Philippines and in other countries as well, where Filipinos reside or work.

It can be recalled that during the Spanish - American war, George Dewey led a US Navy Squadron named "Asiatic Squadron". The American forces defeated the Spanish regime in the battle of Manila Bay on May 1 1898. Then on June 12, 1898 Emilio Aguinaldo led the declaration of Independence from the Spaniards.

In the Philippines, various activities are being held during the observance of the holiday. Some spend time with their family for outdoor activities as bonding opportunities, while the whole country observes patriotic display by raising or posting the Philippine flag.

Fireworks and Independence Day dedicated parades, including flag raising ceremonies can also be seen during the holiday celebration.
