Bakeries in Batangas selling illegal drugs

Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency's (PDEA) report stating that at least eight (8) cities and municipalities are hotspots of a drug trade surprised Mayors in Batangas.

The said report was presented during a joint meeting of the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), at the provincial capitol on Wednesday.
The cities and municipalities of Batangas listed as hotspots of selling illegal drugs are the following:
  • Barangays Anak Dagat and Maguihan of Lemery; Barangay Lumbangan of Nasugbu;
  • Barangays Cuta, Kumintang Ibaba, Kumintang Ilaya and Sta Clara of Batangas City;
  • Poblacion 4,6 and Barangay Sambat of Tanauan City
  • Barangay Maraouy and Sabang of Lipa City;
  • Barangay Namuco and Polacion E of Rosario;
Plus an additional ten (10) or more barangays in Mabini and Mataas Na Kahoy. Newly elected Mayor of Mataas Na Kahoy, Jay Ilagan urged PDEA to carry out operations in his municipality and even pledged to join the operation to catch the drug pushers in his area of responsibility.

A number of mayors said that the proliferation of drug syndicate activities in Batangas is due to the leniency towards the arrested drug pushers and addicts.

Batangas Governor Vilma Santos-Recto said:
I’m still hoping, with the help of the chief executives and different law enforcement agency, we will eradicate or at least minimize the drug proliferation in our province.
Isn't that a scary thing? The bakeries near your house, where you buy your hot pandesal every morning are also dens of drugs items? (
