Founder of UP Madrigal Singers Andrea Veneracion passes away

Founder of UP Madrigal Singers Andrea Veneracion, 85, passed away on Wednesday morning. Messages of condolences, praises and sympathy flooded the UP Madz Facebook page, below the sketched image of Veneracion posted therein.
Veneracion organized the Philippine Madrigal Singers in 1963. She was fondly called as Ma'am OA and was highly esteemed for her exceptional achievements and contribution as choirmaster and choral arranger. She was a former faculty member of the UP College of Music and honorary chair of the Philippine Federation of Choral Music.
A short biography of Andrea Veneracion:
  • Born in July 11, 1928
  • Served as adjudicator in international music competitions
  • Graduate with a Bachelor of Music degrees in Piano and Voice at the University of the Philippines Diliman, Cum Laude.
  • A swimmer and joined the Philippine swimming team
  • Earned Master's Degree in Voice at Indiana University School of Music - Bloomington / Fulbright scholar.
With Veneracion, Madz won major awards in many international competitions - Spittal, Austria | Arezzo and Gorizia, Italy | Neuch√Ętel, Switzerland | Debrecen, Hungary | Varna, Bulgaria
Tolosa and Cantonigros, Spain | Marktoberdorf, Germany

Veneracion was named as National Artist for Music in 1999.
