Google celebrates French physicist Léon Foucault's 194th birthday

In a Doodle series of Google for today, you will see a logo dedicated for the 194th birthday of the famous French physicist Jean Bernard Léon Foucault.

He is best recognized for his invention of the machine called "Foucault pendulum", a device that demonstrates the earth's rotation.

Foucault is also remembered for his premier efforts in measuring the speed of light.

Foucault's early life was spent studying medicine. He had to switch interest, to Physics due to fear of blood.

Jean Bernard Léon Foucault eventually became a member of the Bureau des Longitudes, a French institution whose expertise is centered on nautical navigation, standardisation of time-keeping, geodesy and astronomical observation.

Foucault passed away due to multiple sclerosis.
