Zamboanga City: 4 Barangays under rebels control, 85 hostages

Zamboanga City seems like a ghost town ever since the rebels believed as members of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) tried to take control early this morning.
In several reports from news sites and portals, MNLF is now controlling at least four (4) barangays while the number of hostages have reached 85 already (Interaksyon). It is indeed a tough day for the government to deal with this kind of crisis while still trying to establish grounds on the recent pork barrel scam and PDAF issues.

The same information were shared by Zamboanga City Mayor Maria Isabelle "Beng" Climaco.

Zamboanga authorities said, the rebel group, around 400 in number, entered the city through Barangay Mariki then to Barangay Sta. Barbara, Catalina and Rio Hondo. Rebel elements were then spotted in Barangay Talon-talon.

Rappler's report say, at least 6 were killed in the MNLF - Government clash as of 11am Monday.

The reported MNLF attacks on Zamboanga took place exactly on the day the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and Philippine government are slated to resume their peace talks. (Photo:
