Landmine blasts in North Cotabato killed 9 soldiers

Separate landmine blasts in Tulunan, North Cotabao reportedly killed 9 soldiers.

According to an online report in AFP's website, the attack happened at the boundary of Barangays Caridad and Bituan at past 9:00 in the morning. It happened while the 38th Infantry Battalion were on the way to deliver subsistence allowance to auxiliary forces.
Reports say, the attack was done by the New People's Army (NPA).

The eight soldiers slain in the landmine attack were identified as the following:

1. SSgt. Joel Hadlucon
2. Sgt. Jovencio Ocho
3. Cpl. Thong Bansuan
4. Cpl. Razzel Baylon
5. Sgt. Herames
6. CAA Jonell Tundocan
7. CAA Reynaldo Ballesteros
8. CAA Melquides Butaslac Jr.

Commanding officer Capt. Ernesto Aguilar was able to survive the attack.

The second blast took place at around 11am. This time, the 57th Infantry Battalion were on their way to Barangay New Caridad.

The AFP vehemently condemned the said attacks, saying the NPA violated the "Comprehensive Agreement on the Respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law". (Via ABS-CBN online news)
