Al-Azhar issues fatwa against the movie 'Noah'..faces ban in Arab world

Blockbuster movie 'Noah' is slated to hit the cinemas in a few days, and before its worldwide premiere, the film will be banned in Qatar, Bahrain and the UAE (United Arab Emirates); Other Muslim countries are expected to follow suit.

Paramount Pictures told Reuters this week that censors are already set in the above-mentioned countries.
The official statement they offered in confirming this news is because 'it contradicts the teachings of Islam'
A similar ban is expected to take effect in Egypt, Jordan and Kuwait.

Prophet Noah is revered in Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

However, Al-Azhar, "the highest authority of Sunni Islam and a main center of Islamic teaching for over a millennium" issued a religious injunction, objecting the depiction of Prophet Noah.
Al-Azhar ... renews its objection to any act depicting the messengers and prophets of God and the companions of the Prophet (Mohammad), peace be upon him ..provoke the feelings of believers ... and are forbidden in Islam and a clear violation of Islamic law
Sometime in 2004, Mel Gibson's 'The Passion of the Christ' was also objected by Muslim clerics.
