Bill proposes to ban soft drinks in schools (House Bill 40201)

Named as House Bill 40201 or the 'Healthy Beverage Options Act of 2014', the bill seeks to ban soft drinks in schools, from kindergartens up to high schools, both private and public.

Other beverages included in the proposed ban are sports drinks, punches and iced teas. Fruit drinks containing less than 50% real fruit juice are also in the list.

In the said bill, the schools will be tasked to include in the curriculum, the education of students about the harmful effects of consuming unhealthy foods and drinks.

House Bill 40201 (Healthy Beverage Options Act of 2014) was filed by Representatives Kaka Bag-ao (Dinagat islands) and Leni Robredo (Camarines Sur, 3rd district), together with Daniel 'Chip' Gatmaytan, a 10-year-old boy. (Source)
