9 killed, 32 injured in L.A. truck-bus head-on collision

At least nine (9) people were killed in a head-on collision between a bus and FedEx truck on a Freeway in Northern California on Thursday. Both vehicles were badly burned.

LA Times article said, the FedEx truck crossed the landscaped median and crashed head-on into the tour bus carrying Los Angeles-area high school students on a tour for Humboldt State University.

The drivers of both vehicles did not survive the accident. Both were killed upon collision.

The number of people hurt were estimated as more than 30, California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer Tracy Hoover told the reporters. Some of the victims suffered severe burns, while others had cuts, scrapes and contusions.

One of the witnesses of the accident, Witness Marc Smutny, 27, said:
It was insane. The bus was engulfed in flames, smoke in and out of the front
The bus looked like it took most of the hit. … It was horrible.
The bus was bound for Humboldt State University for the students' spring break tour.

The university's president, Rollin Richmond sent out his message of support and affection to the families of the victims:
Our hearts go out to those who have been affected, and we are here to support them, and their families, in any way possible
