Harper Lee approves e-book version of 'To Kill a Mockingbird'

American novelist and Pulitzer winner Harper Lee finally agreed that a digital library for her novel 'To Kill a Mockingbird' be released.

Lee announced her consent on Monday, which also marked her 88th birthday. HarperCollins, Lee's publisher released in a statement.

Lee called the electronic version of her literary piece as "..Mokingbird for a new generation".

Lee has been active in defending her intellectual property rights. She has not published any work for more than half a century.

The Monroeville, Alabama born author called herself 'old-fashioned' and that she loves 'dusty old books and libraries'.

Lee's decision for 'To Kill a Mockingbird' to go digital was praised by the netizens via social media.

The e-book and digital audio of 'To Kill a Mockingbird' will be released on July 8 this year. It will mark the 54th anniversary of the book's original publication.
