Korea Ship Sinking: Ferry carrying 450 passengers, sinks

Korea Ship Sinking -- A ferry carrying 450 passengers, mostly high school students, sank on Wednesday, Seoul news reporters said.

The vessel sank off the southern coast of South Korea. The number of casualties is still unknown but so far, as per information shared by Lee Gyeong-Og, the vice minister of security and public administration, there have been at least 110 passengers rescued.

The ferry was bound for Jeju. It sent a distress signal at around 9:00 AM. Some of the passengers say, the vessel might have gone aground.

The ferry started its voyage on Tuesday from the western port of Incheon. The incident occurred at approximately 20 kilometers off the island of Byungpoong.

Rescue brigades, comprised by about 34 naval, coastguard and volunteer vessels, including 18 helicopters are now on the site for the required operation. (Source)
