Mayweather threatens to cancel fight against Maidana due to customized gloves

Floyd Mayweather Jr. threatened not to fight Marcos Maidana on May 3 (Sat), Sunday in the Philippines, due to the latter's request to use a customized set of Everlast MX boxing gloves, which the Nevada Athletic Commission approved on the other hand.

Mayweather vs Maidana Fight gloves controversy

The Argentinian boxer Marcos René Maidana wanted to wear the said gloves during his fight with Mayweather Jr. However, the Mayweather team, thru Leonard Ellerbe, the CEO of Mayweather Promotions objected to the padding distribution of the custom hand wear.

Aguilar urged the sides of the fighting team to settle the complaint before the fight night. Ellerbe left a threatening message - 'No fight'.

Golden Boy Promotions believes things could be agreed upon between the two camps, and that the Mayweather's intention not to show up for the fight could be resolved. Maidana may wear other gloves that are acceptable to Mayweather.

Maidana is set to take on a career-high fight this weekend for a $1.5 million purse. Mayweather Jr. is assured of a $32 million take home, plus huge turnouts from Pay-Per-Views.

Some see it, Mayweather not fighting Maidana because of the custom gloves issue looks ridiculous.
