Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 shot by militants over Ukraine, 295 dead news agency says #MH17

A Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 on Boeing 777 from Amsterdam bound for Kuala Lumpur was shot down by militants over eastern Ukraine, Interfax-Ukraine news agency reported on Thursday late evening.

According to a media statement released by Malaysia Airlines on July 18 (Fri) at around 12:30 AM, the company received a notification from Ukrainian ATC that the contact with the flight MH17 was lost at 1415 (GMT), approximately, 50km from the Russia-Ukraine border.

Flight MH17 was expected to arrive at Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 6:10 AM the following day, the airlines press statement added.

The Boeing 777 Flight MH17 was carrying 280 passengers and 15 crew members. All were feared dead.

The plane came down at Torez, near Shakhtersk - an area that has been a location of conflict between the Ukrainian army and pro-Russian rebels.
