Cebu Catholic Priest scolds single mom

The Cebu-based Catholic priest who was videotaped while scolding a single mother at her baby's baptism over the weekend, issued an apology, Inquirer reported on Tuesday.

Here's the priest's shaming video that went viral online, for a reference:

Fr. Romeo Obach (CSsR) wrote a letter of apology, dated July 8, 2014, which reads:
I am now making a public apology to the mother of the child and her immediate family. The words I said and the rude attitude that I showed before I performed the rite of Baptism last Sunday, July 6, 2014 at the Sacred Heart chapel, Jagobiao, Mandaue City was indeed unbecoming
I deeply regret that I have done this. I only later realized how cruel my ways to educate and impart lessons for the said event. I am deeply sorry to the mother of the child, her relatives, the sponsors and the witness of the incident. I am sorry to the internet viewers, to the media listeners and the viewers for this mistake. I personally admit. I am deeply sorry and I humbly ask your forgiveness. I execute this statement of apology on this 8th day of July 2014 at Cebu City.

The shaming video featuring Fr. Oback made rounds in the social media, where he got quite a lot of negative remarks from the netizens.

In a report on GMA News TV, Fr. Melvin Castro of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) was quoted saying:
if this really happened, it is uncalled for
According to GMA Cebu, the single mother was deeply insulted, and even traumatized by the behavior of the priest.

As of the latest update, the Redemptorists of the Province of Cebu has just started its own investigation on the incident. It assured that it will render 'appropriate sanctions' once the scrutiny is complete.
