Ashley Nicole Abalos: 11-year-old PH student bested International Letter-Writing Competition

Ashley Nicole Abalos is an 11-year-old student from PAREF-Woodrose School in Muntinlupa City. She won in an international letter-writing contest at the 2014 International Letter-Writing Competition for Young People of the Swiss-based Universal Postal Union (UPU).

UPU is a specialized agency of the United Nations.

Abalos' winning brought the Philippines the bronze prize. The first prize was taken home by a 13-year-old student from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This year's theme for the competition was 'Write a letter describing how music can touch lives'.

International Letter-Writing Competition for Young People is a literary event created by the UP sometime in 1969. It is aimed at:
..making young people aware of the important role postal services play in our societies, develops their skills in composition and the ability to express their thoughts clearly, fosters their enjoyment of letter writing, and helps strengthen the bonds of international friendship (UPU).
