The first ever Fil-Am to command US aircraft carrier (Capt. Ronald Ravelo Selfie)

Meet Capt. Ronald Ravelo, the first ever Fil-Am to take command of a US aircraft carrier in the US Navy, taking the cue from his brother-in-law Capt. Karl Thomas.

US Naval Air Force Atlantic commander Rear Adm. Troy M. Shoemaker said in a statement, this may also be the very first case of two people from 'two principals' related by marriage.

'With the two principals related by marriage, this is a first for me and probably our Navy, which makes today’s ceremony even more special and allows the families to plan a twofer, a change of command and a summer family reunion', Shoemaker pointed out.

The outgoing officer Thomas northern Virginia is married to Ravelo's sister.

Incoming Ravelo is a graduate from the University of Southern California with a degree in industrial and systems engineering. He served as chief of the North American Aerospace Defense Command Maritime Division (N J32) from December 2010 to October 2012.

Ravelo will be taking command of a 'Nimitz-class' aircraft carrier - the USS Lincoln. It is now having a major overhaul otherwise known as 'Refueling Complex Overhaul (RCOH)'.
