RORO ferry 'MV Maharlika 2' sinks off Southern Leyte: Rescue operations on-going

Roll On Roll Off ferry (RORO) sank off Southern Leyte on Saturday, due to strong waves brought about by the southwest monsoon.
The vessel, identified as "MV Maharlika 2" came from Surigao City. It was slated to arrive Liloan, Southern Leyte on the same day at 5 PM.
The passgener ferry went "Dead on Water" then sunk by strong waves, Philippine Coast Guard's Commander Armand Balilo said in an interview.

Initial information revealed that Maharlika 2 had 56 adults, 2 children, and 26 crew. It is still unknown how many of them were rescued.

Three other ships responded to the scene to carry out necessary search and rescue efforts.
