ALERT: Scary images of haze over Bongao, Tawi-Tawi

Bongao, Tawi-Tawi maybe in need of an immediate attention the soonest time possible; Scary images of haze engulfing its clouds have been sighted since Wednesday, local residents say.

The situation maybe a product of the recent haze that took place in Brunei, Borneo Bulletin reported on Sunday.

Meanwhile, a drastic increase of haze hotpots has been observed in Kalimantan, Indonesia,  Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri G. Palanivel said, as per Eco-Business online report on October 3 (Fri).

"170 hotspots were detected on Sept 30, but had jumped to 367 on Wednesday", Palanivel added.

In the past weeks or so, several flights departing and arriving Kalimantan have been cancelled due to "visibility for landing issues".

"Visibility for landing was not of a high enough standard, so the flight was rerouted to the Syamsuddin Noor International Airport in South Kalimantan",The Jakarta Post published on October 1.

For comparison, here is a couple of photos (clear and with the haze) juxtaposed.

The second photo was taken today, at around 3PM. Notice the thick gray-to-black sky over Bud Bongao?

Haze is an atmospheric phenomenon wherein dust, smoke and other dry particles, including toxic materials and other pollutants combine and form a "low-hanging shroud".
