Centuries passed, the said treasures were gradually being discovered.

Just recently, Derek McLennan, a retired businessman discovered $1 million worth of viking treasures - a silver pot containing gold objects and silver artifacts.

Sometime last month, McLennan and his treasure hunting colleagues found the said hoard of golds in Dumfriesshire, southwest Scotland using a metal detector.

As per records, this latest treasure find is "McLennan's second significant contribution to Scotland's understanding of its past", NY Daily News mentioned.

"Experts have begun to examine the finds, but it is already clear that this is one of the most significant Viking hoards ever discovered in Scotland", Scotland's Treasure Trove unit said.

In another hunt in 2007, a viking treasure deposit was also found in Norther England. Dating back in 1840, more than 8,000 items were unearthed in England's northwest.
