Maguindanao clash: 50 PNP officers die in Maguindanao bloodbath

The clash between Philippine National Police (PNP) officers and members of Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) together with Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in Maguindanao led to the death of at least 50 police men, said GMA News this morning.

Initial reports told of a lesser number of fatalities; The number went up on Sunday, PNP Senior Superintendent Noel Armilla told GMA News TV's News To Go. 

The slain officers were members of PNP's elite Special Action Force. They were in the area to search and arrest Malaysian bomb maker Zulkifli Bin Hir a.k.a "Marwan".

In a separate online news article published by ABS-CBN, Senator Antonio Trillanes IV called the PNP to conduct an internal investigation. The police officers might have been given the wrong information, hence their tragic fate.

MILF said, the government did not make any coordination efforts to pursue the said operation.

The ambush took place in Brgy. Tukanalipao Mamasapano Maguindanao.
