Explosion due to powder spray at Taiwan water park injured more than 200

An explosion at a water park outside Taiwan's capital Taipei injured more than 200 people, Saturday after colored powder were sprayed onto a partying crowd.

More or less 80 of the victims suffered serious burns. On the other hand, local media reported that "97 people were seriously hurt".

According to New Taipei City fire department, the explosion must have been caused by the powder spray. The fire was ignited due to the heat of the lights on the stage.

Data from the municipality’s deputy mayor revealed that 221 had been hospitalized.

The incident happened while people were enjoying an event at the coastal Formosa Fun Coast waterpark.

"We feel sad and regretful about the accident", New Taipei Mayor Eric Chu said during an interview.

"I’ve ordered the park to shut down immediately and be placed under a rigorous investigation", the Mayor added.
