Just this week, a city in the province of Batangas, Philippines had its residents alarmed by the news, where an alleged plastic-like substance was found mixed with the rice items being sold in its local markets.

The said fake rice was spotted in Tanauan, a city with 48 barangays under the mayorship of Honorable Antonio C. Halili.

In an issue that is circulating on social media, Mayor Halili was bothered by the news regarding a resident who complained of buying tainted rice.

Mayor Halili ordered his staff to know the truth about the said complaint and do the product testing as well in order to prove the claim.

Unfortunately, it was discovered that the dubious rice is somewhat mixed with plastic-like materials.

After burning a sample in a foil, the foreign material got melted and formed into a plastic substance.

The Mayor, along with the police went to the rice stores in Tanauan to issue an order; Rice products with "JM" labels should not be sold anymore, Halili said.

Stores found violating the order will have their permits cancelled, the mayor added.
