Ex-Senator 'Butz' Aquino passes away

"He passed away because of natural causes", texted Senator Bam Aquino, Monday to reporters.

According to the Senator, "Butz" died of natural causes.

Butz Aquino played a crucial role in the Edsa revolution in 1986, Senate  President Franklin Drilon mentioned as he expressed his mourning for the demise of a good friend.

"Butz had played a very important role in the Edsa revolution. He was a civic organizer. He helped formed various organizations including the August Twenty One Movement, whose members bravely fought for the restoration of our freedom.", Drilon said.

"As a legislator,  his legacy laws have been benefiting our countrymen, such as the Magna Carta for Small Farmers and the Cooperative Code of the Philippines. On behalf of the Senate, I extend our condolences to the family of Butz", he added.

Butz Aquino served as a Senator from 1987–1995. He became a congress representative for the 2nd district of Makati City from 1998 to 2007.

He is the uncle of President Benigno Aquino III.

He died while confined at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center. He was 76.
