Forwarder reveals Customs bribery in order to get containers out of ports

Here is another dose of a hot issue concerning the Bureau of Customs' (BOC) "bribery system" that has been going on, as shared by a freight forwarder.

Customs Tara for containers in the ports

According to the forwarder, the "tara" or bribe has to be given in order for the containers arriving at the ports processed for release.

Door to Door Consolidators Association of the Philippines chairman Ramon Ungco confirmed the governing malpractice, in an interview with GMA's “24 Oras”.

"Kailangan magbigay ka ng tara kasi kung hindi, hindi aasikasuhin ang papeles mo" (It is necessary for you to give tara, or else your papers won't be processed), said Ungco.

The going rates for the containers goes from P40,000 to P85,000 per container. The bigger the container, the bigger the tara is needed, Ungco added.
Kami naman, lalo na ako, magnenegosyo ako sa Pilipinas alam kong corrupt. Magtatara ako para bumilis lang. 'Yan lang ang hinahabol namin kasi mga balikbayan yan
Just recently, Customs increased the taxes for containers that are coming from the United States - P80,000 to P120,000, GMA News wrote.
