The inclement weather that brought torrential rains triggered severe flooding in central and western Myanmar.

As such, rescue operations are hampered.

Government officials declared four worst-hit areas in the said regions.

Initial data revealed that there are around 150,000 homes and fields decimated. Residents are now stranded in remote villages, while relief operations are becoming limited as time passes by.

According to a certain director at the social welfare ministry of Myanmar, "Most of the country is flooded..".

"..all but one of Myanmar's 14 provinces and regions were affected by the flash floods, rising waters and landslides caused by the downpour", France24 wrote, quoting the said official.

Rescue efforts are now under way albeit the struggle is quite intense when it comes to accessing the flood-hit areas.

The United Nations have already dispatched assessment teams to identify areas of relief priorities.
