General Trias is now a city

General Trias as a city can now bear and use a corporate seal, "acquire, hold and convey real or personal property; and to enter into any contract or agreement.", GMA News wrote.

The current officials of General Trias will still hold their posts until 2016 elections.

General Trias was formerly known as "San Francisco de Malabon". In the 2010 census, it has a population of about 250,000 people.

The city bore many names in the past. In the Spanish era, it was referred to as "Las Estancias" or "The Ranches". It was once part of Cavite el Viejo, which is now called Kawit.
