In a statement given by his daughter Tintin via phone interview, Pineda has been doing well in the past few weeks, after a surgery last March.

He even managed to go out to the supermarket to buy stuff and eat out, the daughter added.

A meteorologist in profession, he used to appear on television, reporting weather forecasts for GMA Network from 1970 to 1980.

Pineda was known for his catchphrase, "That's the latest from PAGASA" at the end of his weather forecasts.

He even had several cameo appearances in films, mostly with roles imitating himself.

He died at the age of 77.
