In anticipation of the full blown implementation of the automated fare collection system (AFCS) using the contactless cards, a pre-sale was started yesterday, from 5AM to 10PM.

According the MRT office, sales persons are stationed near the teller booths.

The card costs P100, which includes the card fee for P20 and an initial load of P80.

Stored value beep cards may be used within four years from the time it was purchased.

As per plan, MRT-3 will be using the beep cards from October 3, 2015.

The beep cards are now being used at all stations of the Light Rail Transit (LRT). It started on September 20, 2015.

Prior to that, it was implemented at "all southbound LRT 1 stations since August 16 and across the LRT 2 since July 20.", wrote Manila Bulletin.

The use of the contactless smartcards is one of the initiatives spearheaded by the Department of Transportation and Communications (DoTC) to address the long queues of passengers falling in line at the booths to buy the old version tickets.
