The Russian charter plane, a Metrojet Airbus A321 crashed Saturday in a remote area of Sinai Peninsula.

The plane took off from Sharm el-Sheikh bound for St. Petersburg.

The clear cause of the crash has not yet been identified, although there is a disputed claim from an Islamic State-allied group, which said it brought down the jet in retaliation for Russia's air strikes against fighters trying to topple down Syrian President Bashar Assad.

According to Egypt’s civilian aviation ministry, the plane had an altitude between 31,000 and 40,000 feet, and that some said it is beyond the range of smaller surface-to-air weapons.

The flight and voice data recorder of the plane have been recovered and are now in the hands of Egypt's Civil Aviation Ministry.

"There was nothing abnormal before the plane crash.. It suddenly disappeared from the radar.", Minister Hossam Kamel said.

The bodies recovered from the crash site were sent to the morgues in the Egyptian capital.
